Any updates on short code support? Qik apparently uses a short code for their new service, so it can't currently be used with a TextFree number.
**Please make this additional urgent feature a priority. It's extremely necessary for various most commonly used social websites/emails to have a text phone number to send short code texts to in order to confirm identities on user accounts. Sometimes/Often, they will not give the option of email or telephone confirmation & a user account is left disabled (i.e. Facebook). This is a huge inconvenience/issue. Please listen to your users & you'll definitely get a higher rating on the updated app. If it's not too hard & it's realistic, please make your Textfree phone #'s receive short codes. Thanks 4 your consideration.**
Please text your users once this update has been made
Just add it, it's a no-brainer!!
i would pay for the short codes at a reasonable price..... these days short codes are used a lot. Please add this feature soon.
I would not want to pay for the codes. My advice is that we create a seperate app for this so it can stay free.
help me get this
Any news regarding short code support?
I would SOOOOO be willing to pay for it!!!!!!!! Although, I probably wouldn't be able to.... *sad face*
can't get my number
Please add shortcode support. I'd be willing to pay. It's the only thing that would keep me hooked to att's 20 cent per message charge...
Bank of America also uses short codes for text banking. They also have an alert service that can not find textfree phone numbers to send the messages to, I will use the textfree email address, but the message is then like an email and very, very long for reading in textfree.
it should be
Then why not create another app based off the current textfree format, just for short codes? Or perhaps require that minutes be used to text short codes as compensation to the texting of short codes.
And no i do not want to pay at all.. Once they say it costs to text, thats the end of this app, im gonna have to use textplus instead.
i want to text chacha sometimes....but i can't..I've never had a phone and this is what i use instead of a phonee. I want to text chacha please
I too would like to have the ability to text to short codes.
@Charles Harlic Gmail hast it? what do you mean, I have a Google voice accent
Please add short code support so that I can receive text messages on Textfree from my child's school. The are using txtwire (short code 91011) to send text notifications from the school.
Please add this ability!!~~~
i also just found out that a txt message FROM a short code provider will NOT show up in my received text messages using your service. i hope you guys can figure out how to get acceptance to SEND and RECEIVE messages from short code providers....
this is curt wilson from facebook and first thanks for responding to my short code ?. the companies that purchase the short codes pay over $10k upfront and not sure how much every year after but after the purchase this short code is given to all cell phone providers for free and each provider sets it up in their network. i would think and hope that you guys could get on this list because short codes are getting very popular and will continue to grow substantially over the next few years. if you are unable to receive these short codes for free it would be quite costly because there are probably thousands already and thousands more coming. i would definitely pay to receive these short codes and would be unable to use your wonderful service if you dont get access to these codes. thanks!
I agree with @Tas A
We want short codes just to use it with some of the basic apps, now people say they will be willing to pay, then why don't you get for example AT&T unlimited texting that is $20 a month?, I don't see why pinger have to work on it if you want to pay for something that is already out there.
Now, aren't we all here because at first we wanted to txt for free?and Pinger you guys made money for the adds on the app right? adding short code txt to the app would get more people to install the app on their phones and as we all know we don't care about the iAdds :)
@PingerMarsWell, basically what most of us are saying is that we should be able to use short codes for things that are free. For example, twitter and facebook but when it comes to things such as voting on american idol or something else, we could be given the option to either pay or not use short codes for that reason. Most of us want short codes so we could get notified when someone tweets or get notifications on facebook. I would say a majority of us want only these two sites to be used for short codes.
I would totally be willing to pay. Has to be cheaper than the $30 for unlimited texting my phone provider wants to charge.
Often, texting to short codes costs you a premium (more than a normal text). If we were to incorporate the ability to text to short codes into the app, we would probably have to charge you for it. Is this something you'd be willing to pay for?Would you be ok with a name change to our app? (Well, it couldn't be "Textfree" if it isn't free anymore, could it?)
Feel free to respond! :)
i was going to use it for papa johns for free pizza. no dice (or pizza as it may be) but I said, 'whatever, it's free". Now we signed up to do a treasure hunt and the same thing. I would even pay a little for this feature!!! It's the new wave. Come on, please???
i would pay to have short code messages
please add short code!!!!!!!! I want to text chacha soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!!!!!
Please add short code support pls pls pls
well i need short code support now and when i say now i mean now
Please add short code support. It would really improve Pinger Textfree!
when will short code txting be avalable with textfree? :/
You guys really! need to get cuz I want it so bad for Twitter and Facebook! and other things!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
Add me to the list of people wanting this feature!!
Please do consider adding this. The main two short codes I'd like to see supported are the ones from Twitter and Facebook, but it'd be even more useful if short codes in general were supported.
Just thought of another RADIO STATIONS use short codes in their promotions almost always.
Please add this. There are countless things I've been shut out from because of lack of short code support. I have no text messaging service on my cell phone. FACEBOOK VERIFICATION is a biggie, and I can't recall what others offhand. Oh, entering a sweekstakes once also, I was barred from due to this limitation.
Adding another reason for shortcode support that I ran into today. It seems Amazon order updates are shortcode based, so I can't receive update notifications on package shipments.
I recently sent in a request for short code. Another important use for shortcode is ChaCha I cant text ChaCha a question and get an answer back because its shortcode and the number "is not recognized". PLEASE add shortcode so I can text to ChaCha.
Of course any sane person would use native apps for keeping up with facebook and the like. But I have come across a few situations where I need to send/receive messages to/from a short code. For instance: verifying a twitter or facebook account. Receiving a push notification for when a specific twitter account posts a tweet. Many charities receive donations via short code text. Services such as ChaCha operate on short code. And although I have never wanted to do so I believe American Idol and the like receive votes via short code.
Hey everyone! I moved this post to our "User Feedback" forum so our Product Managers can see how much interest you guys have in short code! :)
Yeah, the app is basically unusable without short code. If I can't get facebook updates, or information from my dentist I'm totally lost in this world. It's not like Twitter and Facebook have applications for your device that you can use instead, and hell, Wells Fargo probably doesn't have a convenient application that you can use on your device either. Just kidding, it's right here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wells-fargo-mobile/id311548709?mt=8
And hey, if you like sports, forget about shortcode updates, cause who would want to use an app by that little known broadcast network ESPN?
Seriously Pinger, what the hell, making life so hard.
Facebook is now offering to text you, but a short code of
We discovered two other services that we use that require short codes. The first is our bank, Wells Fargo (93557) to get balances and activity and the second is our dentist (42947).
Thanks for looking into this!
Thanks for your help! I'll pass this tidbit of info on to our product managers.
I've only tried setting up twitter so far. It requires you to send a text to 40404 to verify your mobile number. There may be others that won't work. Only one I can think of is maybe delta air lines flight notification
Hey John - we're looking into it, but we'd like to evaluate it more. Can you tell us what services you use that utilize short code?
Please add this ability ASAP.
Sorry, but sending messages to a short code from Textfree is currently not available.
