Sending messages is easy with TextFree Web. Below you'll find information on how to do so.
Note: TextFree Web does not support texting to international numbers or 5-digit shortcode numbers. To send or reply to supported international numbers or shortcode numbers, please use the mobile app instead.
Text Messages (SMS)
Compose a new message:
- Tap the compose button at the top-right of the screen to compose a new message.
- In the name or number field, enter the number or contact name, then press Enter (or Tab).
- The number/name will turn gray if you've entered the recipient info correctly. If the name/number is blue, please press enter or tab.
- You can add up to 10 recipients to a group message.
- Type your message into the text box.
- Press the
(or enter on your keyboard) to send the new message.
Using Voice to Text (optional)
You can use "Voice to Text" on Web to send text messages using dictation. Microphone permission and access are required.
- Click the
microphone icon to the right of the text box.
- Allow microphone access by selecting "Allow while visiting the site" (if you haven't done so already)
- Start speaking (your message will appear in the text box), then when you want to send the message, click the send button (or press enter).
FYI: You cannot send audio messages via Index Web; however, you may receive and listen to them. To send an audio message, please use the mobile app.
To send a message to an existing conversation:
- Locate the existing conversation in your inbox and click on it
- Type your text message into the text field
- When done, click the "up arrow" button to send
To rename the conversation:
- Click on the small triangle
to the right of their number to view contact edit options > Click rename
- Other options: Set Text Tone, Delete Conversation, or Block Number
